Delegate or die
“Mastering delegation is essential to building a successful business.”
I was reminded today of the importance of mastering the art of delegation.
Without effective delegation, we drown under a mountain of mundane yet time-consuming tasks, which leaves insufficient time to get the important things done.
Being able to delegate is one of the most important skills an entrepreneur must master if he or she is to grow a bigger business. The master of delegation, Richard Branson, has built a worldwide empire by identifying good business opportunities, selecting the right people to run them, and then stepping aside to let them do their job. Watch this video of how he lives it up in South Africa!
Richard Branson holds onto strategy as his own portfolio, and delegates everything else, and has built a ‘dream lifestyle’ out of this method. Getting to that level is a lifetime goal!
Start to master the art of delegation by identifying ‘low value’ tasks that take up time in your day. These are the jobs that someone on a lower pay scale could do. Typically, these are mundane tasks like filing, packing shelves, and washing cars. However, as the team grows (and your earning power increases) then tasks could become more sophisticated, for example, book-keeping, administration, sales, and eventually the management of the company itself.
