Curiosity opens doors
“Ask questions and elevate your leadership with the new knowledge.”
As a leader, I’ve often noticed how the young people on my team who ask questions and step forward into the world with curiosity seem to be the ones who get ahead. They approach the world with an open mind, eager to learn and eager to contribute. The result is the world responds accordingly – eager to tech and inviting engagement.
So, it was interesting to listen to Arnold Schwarzenegger say in his book Be Useful how his ability to create networks with the most influential people in the world was a result of his natural curiosity. Meeting famous people evolved into partnerships because he asked questions and was curious to learn from and about them.
Too often leaders mistakenly think that they need to know everything and that lack of knowledge is a weakness. In reality, being humble enough to listen and learn opens doors to new understanding and new relationships.
So, this week I’m reminding myself to ask questions of those that I meet. And to listen and make space to learn something new each day.
