How Do You Feel?
“Our emotions and tensions affect everyone in our field of influence – so how would you like those around you to feel?”
I have become aware over the past weeks how our frantic pace of life has resulted in a huge build-up of anxieties and tension. I am also acutely aware how my energy impacts those around me – my family, friends, work colleagues and, ultimately, my work.
Ongoing anxiety shows up as hidden tension in the body or “stress”, which is so dangerous to our mental and physical wellbeing if left unchecked.
As we become better at coping with the challenges of life, it’s easy to lose touch with what is happening within and the resilience we admire comes at a cost when we stuff down our emotions and crank up our “coping tools”. A sign that we are coping rather than managing stress is when we are out of touch with how we really feel and find ourselves reacting in anger, without recognising the underlying emotions of fear, sadness or even shame.
The starting point is to create methods to get in touch with these deeper feelings. I have a daily practice of breathing, to calm the body and mind, and allow space for recognising tension in the body. I use an easy pleasant guided routine of Wim Hof Breathing from Convergence Lifestyle at the start of my day which sets me in the right frame of mind and on track for an inspired and joy-filled day ahead.
You might also like to try this method to put you in touch with how you really feel, which is step one in the process of creating the life you really want to live.
I will elaborate on this next week.
