The ladder to success
This week is one that has a special blessing in it, as we celebrate 14 years of Fetola. This beautiful business has fed, inspired and united a family of people right across South Africa, blessing many others and me with a better future as a result of our collective passion and hard work.
I am Fetola employee number 001. This position out in front is a reminder of my role as the leader and captain of the ship, and of the ultimate responsibility I hold for guiding it safely into the future. The buck stops at 001.
Each month, when my salary pops into my account, I try to pause for a moment to soak up its blessing and give thanks for the magic of business, where ideas and effort combine to make money. I also am reminded that there is no success without responsibility, or growth without generosity and real impact can only be achieved with the collective effort of a professional, motivated and skilled team.
For me, though, success is not a destination; it’s a ladder with no end and there is no top rung. Instead, success is a never-ending series of steps with opportunities for greater adventure.
So, if you are employee number 001 in your business, I wish you the confidence, strength and inspiration to lead your team to greatness, the grit and resilience to survive the challenges that will inevitably cross your path, and the humility and grace to acknowledge and thank those who support you in your quest.
If you are employee number 002 and beyond, I give thanks for the work that you do and wish you the freedom to express your full potential in the company of your choice.
