Resilience in Tough Times
“Resilience is the ability, the will and the game-plan to keep going no matter what.”
I had a very interesting conversation with a fellow paraglider this weekend. This well-travelled engineer made a prediction that South Africa is about to enter a growth period.
His premise was that rebuilding after the destruction from looting and violence would largely be covered by insurance and result in a knock-on effect of growth.
I was encouraged by the positive thinking and reminded how important it is to have something to look forward to. Economies tend to move in cycles of growth and stagnation, just as a season of summer growth follows the winter cold and, on that basis, we are certainly due some good times!
The conversation also made me aware that those most deeply affected in the past week: those who have lost their livelihoods, their confidence and loved ones are still in a deep state of shock and not yet ready to rebuild. Let’s be mindful that for many the wounds are still raw and that healing is needed.
So, this week let us be aware of and care for each other as we look for opportunities to build a better future for ourselves and others around us.
