Stand strong!
“The way to ensure that “SMEs will create 80% of all new jobs” is to buy from them.”
The media (and politicians) often speak about SMEs or small business as impersonal objects or commodities to be traded. Typically, they use the following statement “SMEs will create 80% of all new jobs”, which is repeated frequently as though by magic this will simply happen because it is needed.
In reality though, small businesses are much more personal. It takes an individual with the courage and skill to take personal responsibility to start and run a successful business. There is nowhere to hide as an entrepreneur – no job description or HR policy to hide behind. You are measured on your results. On the quality, reliability and appeal of your products and services.
For the majority of society this level of personal exposure and accountability is just too much to contemplate. Only one in ten citizens accept the risk and claim their space to become entrepreneurs.
Yet, as the unemployment numbers rise month on month, there is increasing pressure on SMEs to make more jobs. As every business owner knows, however, jobs are an outcome of successful business practice. Good business comes first. Jobs come as a result of that.
The way we can make a difference in the country and help to ensure that “SMEs will create 80% of all new jobs” is not only to build businesses but buy from them.
So today I’m giving a shout-out to those who have made a commitment to buy from a small business in your area and to all the courageous entrepreneurs that are building a business for the future.
