“Fearless leadership provides guidelines to help us make decisions.”
In times of turmoil, the need for strong, confident leadership to guide your team (and your business) increases. As leaders, that’s when we need to show up with a calm, well-considered roadmap into the future.
Fearless leadership provides guidelines to help us make decisions to move the business forward, even when times are tough or uncertain. This includes building both the confidence to act and the humility to ask for help; cultivating the discipline to gather facts, not just to shoot from the hip and the commitment to turn ideas into practical, actionable outcomes.
Mostly though, we need strong leadership to create a sense of safety and security for our stakeholders – staff and clients.
If you could use a method to build your fearless leadership muscle, these four steps will help:
How I overcome my FEAR and show up as a leader in troubled times
F- Feel: Acknowledge that you feel fear. If you wake in the night with a knot in your stomach, lean into the feeling to name it. “ …. makes me feel fearful”
E- Explore: Explore what sits at the root of this fear. “The underlying cause of my fear is… that I’m afraid we might lose this key client”
A- Act: Commit to the action you need to “ face your fear”. “I will call the client today to….”
R- Reflect: Reflect (with your leadership team) on alternative solutions “Should we lose this key client, we will do xxx to diversify our business and minimise the impact.
Leadership is a constant journey of navigating our fears and “doing it anyway”. More often than not, the fear is worse than the reality – and turning to face allows you to move forward.
Wishing you a great week ahead – let’s face our fears and turn them into opportunities to build a pathway into the future.
