Be kind to yourself

“Look after yourself, so that you can reach your own dreams, and help others to reach theirs.”

The chances are that if you are a regular reader of my weekly greeting, you are someone holding up a lot of people. Your family, your extended family, your work team and perhaps your community look to you for support and advice.

But who looks after you? Who notices when you feel burdened and in need of support? Who gives you nourishment for your body and soul?

Perhaps you are also someone who sets yourself very high standards – and is self-critical when you feel you fall short of these expectations?

So my message this week is to remind us to be kind to ourselves. Recognise any tendency to beat yourself up by changing your self-talk to acknowledge the wins. Be courageous in reaching out for support from others and nurture yourself first. Buy yourself flowers, cook your favourite food, say no to things that drain you and block time for yourself in your calendar.

As we go into the last quarter of 2026, let this be the time when we look after ourselves, so that we can reach our own dreams and help others to reach theirs, without feeling burdened or burnt out.

Have a great week ahead!
