Simple Steps to Conquer Fear

People often assume that I am fearless because I am a paraglider. In reality, I paraglide despite being afraid, not because I am fearless. Recently, I had a string of weeks in which anxiety spread to all areas of my life. I found myself waking in the night feeling anxious with a fear that had no obvious trigger point. I was exhausted and feeling as though all the joy had been drained from my life.

Recognising this had to stop, I searched for help and found a podcast by Heike Hamann.

Her simple, seven steps to conquer fear brought me back to balance – both in the air and on the ground:

1. Recognise you are anxious

2. Breathe deeply three times

3. Identify the fear

4. Assess if you are in real danger

5. Set small goals to create small wins

6. Land safely (find a safe space) and talk about it

7. Improve your skills, master what you are afraid of so you can overcome it

This week, I am reminded that courage isn’t about being fearless. It is about doing what needs to be done despite feeling anxious.

Wishing you a fabulous week. If this resonates with you, give yourself a hug and a virtual high five for doing what you do even when it’s not easy.
